MEXICAN AMERICAN LITERATURE UNIT GOAL:

After completing research process, students will identify significant contemporary Meixcna American artists and writers and make recommendations for Mexican American Literature & Literature curriculum.

UNIT ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

1. What is IDENTITY and how has Mexican American identity shaped  by historical events during the late 20th Century and Early 21st Century?

2. How does IDENTITY shape perspectives of historical events and conflicts?

3. Who are emerging artists and writers in the Mexican American community and what issues and topics do they address?

4. What has the emergence of Mexican Americans in mainstream art, literature and culture contributed to American culture as a whole?

Objective 1: Contemporary Mexican American Artist

Students will select and research contemporary Mexican American writer, artist, musician, or playwright and write a biography to feature as a contemporary voice for Mexican American arts and culture.

Objective 2: Analyze Selected Works

Students will selected an example of the artists work and write a summary analyzing significance of Mexican American writer, artist, musician, or playwright to feature as a contemporary voice for Mexican American arts and culture.

Objective 3: Significance of Artist to Mexican American Literature & Culture

Students will find a quote by the artist and explain what it reveals about the work and their contributions to Mexican American literature and culture.

Objective 4: Multimedia Presentation

Students will create a multimedia presentation that will introduce class to artist/writer that should be included in next year’s Mexican American Literature & Culture curriculum.
