AP Seminar: Period 1

This week AP Seminar Scholars will submit portfolios to the AP College Board, and prepare for End of Course Exam by completing and revising practice end of course exams.

Monday: Upload IWA to College Board Digital Portfolio

Tuesday: After reading and annotating “34 problems with Standardized Tests” by Valerie Strauss, students will identify the TOPIC, PURPOSE, and LINE of REASONING by completing TPCCC Says Means Matters template.

Wednesday: After discussing the LINE OF REASONING in Lines of Communication Exercise, students will use TIEAC to Evaluate the effectiveness of the evidence the author uses to support the claims made in the argument.

Thursday: After reviewing previous year’s EOC Section II Free Response Questions, AP Seminar scholars will review sample source material to build and organize an effective argument.

Friday: After reviewing ANT-TIEAC-RARR, students will complete a practice TIMED WRITE to prepare for AP Seminar End of Course Exam on May 7, 2019.

Mexican American Literature: Period 2, 6

This week, Mexican American Literature Scholars will compare ARCHETYPE patterns in El Corrido de Joaquin Murrieta and El Corrido de Gregorio Cortez after completing a close reading of the ballads and historical source materials.

Monday: After defining Guyatri Spivak’s postcolonial theory on the SUBALTERN, students will apply this term to analyze the song titled, “El Corrido” by Los Tigres del Norte using a QUICK ANALYSIS sentence frame and GIVE ONE GET ONE discussion.

Tuesday: After a JIGSAW reading, Jess Canales’ essay “The Origins of Joaquin Murrieta,” students will be able to identify the socio-historical origins of Joaquin Murrieta in a QUAKER SHARE.

Wednesday: After reading a summary of Carl Jung’s views of archetypes, students will identify character ARCHETYPE and JOURNEY using textual evidence from Jess Canales’s essay “The Origins of Joaquin Murrieta,”

Thursday: After completing a QUICK SEARCH on Americo Paredes’ life and completing a Author Background Circle Map and Paragraph Frame on findings, students will share findings and write a BACKGROUND PARAGRAPH on the scholar and his influence on the field of Mexican American Studies.

Friday: After reading “El Corrido de Gregorio Cortez,” students will compare the text to “El Corrido de Joaquin Murrieta” and begin to analyze the film adaptation titled The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez written by Victor Villasenor.

English 3P Honors: Period 3 & 4

This week, English 3P Honors will present their understanding of MODERNISM through presentations on the Harlem Renaissance and analysis of Ch. 1-6 of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
