This week, Mexican American Literature Scholars will compare ARCHETYPE patterns in El Corrido de Joaquin Murrieta and El Corrido de Gregorio Cortez after completing a close reading of the ballads and historical source materials.

Monday: After defining Guyatri Spivak’s postcolonial theory on the SUBALTERN, students will apply this term to analyze the song titled, “El Corrido” by Los Tigres del Norte using a QUICK ANALYSIS sentence frame and GIVE ONE GET ONE discussion.

Tuesday: After a JIGSAW reading, Jess Canales’ essay “The Origins of Joaquin Murrieta,” students will be able to identify the socio-historical origins of Joaquin Murrieta in a QUAKER SHARE.

Wednesday: After reading a summary of Carl Jung’s views of archetypes, students will identify character ARCHETYPE and JOURNEY using textual evidence from Jess Canales’s essay “The Origins of Joaquin Murrieta,”
